Fort Concho won the Western Museum Award from the American Cowboy Culture Association’s at the 2014 National Cowboy Symposium and Celebration this past weekend in Lubbock.
Fort Concho Manager Bob Bluthardt accepted the honor on behalf of the fort, noting “it represents many years of excellent work by the site staff, board and volunteers.”
Fort Concho has participated in the Cowboy Symposium with a military field camp for the past 15 years. “It was very thoughtful of the association to honor Fort Concho,” Bluthardt said. “This award reflects decades of work we have done in events, programs, educational activities, preservation and public service.”
Alvin Davis, past chairman of the symposium and retired director of the Ranching Heritage Center in Lubbock, presented the award at the symposium's evening program at the Lubbock Civic Center.
The National Cowboy Symposium was created in 1989 and occurs every September. Fort Concho expects to again participate in 2015.
