Lifeguard Shortage to Close Love Pool

A shortage of lifeguards will force Love Municipal Pool to close Saturday, Aug. 23, and Sunday, Aug. 24. The pool will reopen for Labor Day weekend Aug. 30-Sept. 1.

Most of the lifeguards at Love Municipal Pool are college and high school students who have either left San Angelo for school or will spend the final weekend before the fall semester begins attending to last-minute school-related details. The lifeguard shortage would make opening the pool unsafe, Recreation Manager Maryann Vasquez said.

Many of the lifeguards are willing to return to work on Labor Day weekend.

The pool will offer public swimming from noon to 6 p.m. on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the holiday weekend. Admission to Love Municipal Pool, 18 E. Avenue A, is $5 per person for ages 3-64, free for children younger than 3, and $3 for ages 65 and older.

Public swimming will also be available from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 20-22. Labor Day will be the final day of summer the pool will be open.
