Every other weekend at PetSmart, 4439 Sunset Drive, volunteers from the Critter Shack bring their foster dogs and cats to the sidewalk in front of the store seeking “forever homes” for their rescued animals.
Saturday when we were there, seven cats and kittens had found homes but no dogs were spoken for yet.
The Critter Shack finds animals in need of rescue and matches them with a foster family. The foster family vets that the animal has good temperament and in some cases, provides more acute care to get the dog or cat ready for permanent adoption. When the animal is ready, advertisements in the Internet and in-person events like at PetSmart are held.
In 2013, Critter Shack rescued and found homes for 724 dogs and cats. This year, they are trending a little behind last year’s number.
You can view their available dogs here.
Puppies under five years old have an adoption fee of $160. Older dogs are $80 each.
More information is on the Critter Shack San Angelo website.
