Navy Personnel Host Krispy Kreme Fundraiser

Navy personnel could be seen on the corner of Harris and Beauregard Ave. this morning, waving down cars with smiles and boxes of Krispy Kreme.

The Chief Petty Officers started the morning with 300 dozen donut brought in fresh from San Antonio this morning, and were nearly sold out by 10 a.m.

U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Thomas O'Brien explained that the donut sale was a fundraising event for two Navy officers that are retiring this year, who have served 22 and 21 years. Both are stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base, O'Brien said.

"We've got two people retiring from the military this year and we're trying to raise money so they can get shadow boxes, and then obviously you have to pay for the venue and food every time somebody retires," he said. "So we're trying to raise money so we can do them right."
