San Angelo Fire Department Fights Two-Alarm Fire Overnight

The San Angelo Fire Department extinguished a two-alarm house fire at 1301 S. Jackson St. overnight. Dispatchers received the call at 2:58 a.m. The SAFD responded with 23 firefighters, its ladder truck, three engines, its rescue unit, two ambulances and its command staff.
When firefighters arrived, the house was fully engaged in flames on its southside. Firefighters tried to make entry into the house, but were pushed back by heat and smoke as the fire had already advanced into the attic and roof. Once firefighters had assured all four of the residents were out of the house, they fought the fire from the outside.
There were no injuries, but the home is a total loss. A minivan in a driveway separating the house from an adjacent property was also destroyed, although the neighboring home was spared any significant damage.
The Fire Marshal's Office has ruled the cause as accidental. Fire Marshal's Investigator Karla Steppe said the home's electrical system caused the blaze.
