Grandy's Restaurant Shuttered in San Angelo

Grandy’s has closed their doors after 31 years of service to San Angelo.

The closing was so sudden that three cars waited in line for a breakfast that would never come.

A company representative who refused to give his name said that the reason for closure was the new Discount Tire building next door.

“It just dwarfed the building,” he said, “it covered our sign up, you could only see the DYS.”

He also stated that after the opening of Discount Tire, the sales dropped 15-20 percent.

Grandy’s chose to not renew a ten-year lease.

As of yet it is unknown as to whether or not a new Grandy’s will open, or if it is gone from San Angelo forever.

The wife of the GM Paul Soto was excited about the Grandy's in San Angelo's prospects back in May 2013. She posted:

I have to say that I am proud of my husband Paul Soto. Why? Because I was eating lunch at Grandy's San Angelo and this man was eating with his wife. He starts talking to me and says that he is so impressed with how clean and nice the restaurant is. I told him well, my hubby is the new GM and he just took over about 7 weeks ago. Just goes to show that hard work and dedication go hand in hand. Especially because my hubby has a great staff. And working together it's all possible. So congrats to Paul and the entire Grandy's staff for all of the improvements. It's nice to hear compliments like that from random customers. Also from old customers too. On Tuesday, another lady had nice things to say since she hadn't been back in a while. So, on that note...hope to see y'all there!

If I would've known that they finally cleaned that place up, I would've gone back. It's been dirty and in disarray for so many years, that I just couldn't bring myself to go there anymore. I loved the food, but it's hard to trust the sanitation of the food when the restaurant is overall in such bad shape. I believe that the Discount Tire being in the way was just a convenient excuse - If I want to go to Grandy's, I know where it is....I'm still gonna go to Grandy's. However, there should be better laws here in Angelo regarding building clutter - there have been a few things built in the last year or two that seem to get in the way of other businesses' visibility.
