While the shimmer of bright lights and city skylines fade it seems the character of a city like San Angelo can't be dimmed. After leaving San Angelo for the summer I've found that absence does make the heart grow fonder.
I am currently a student at Angelo State University, but spent the past summer studying journalism at Harvard University. Since returning home I've rekindled a greater appreciation for the city that has fostered my home.
Having been born and raised in San Angelo makes this city more than just a dot on the map. Politics, art, education and university life fuel my being. My writing is based on these passions and San Angelo offers a little bit of each.
After graduating a year early from high school I knew I wanted to study communications with the aspiration of becoming a journalist. This field allows me to grow in the understanding of others. To me journalism is not merely a profession. Rather, it is all about relation to people and the ability to share these stories with the public.
I chose to study at Angelo State because of what the location offers. San Angelo is home to various local artists and has an emerging music scene. Greater than all else is the community. The people of San Angelo are what make it home. Even on the coldest day of the year San Angelo stays warm -- and that's because of of the people who live here.
