WATCH: The Bulls Dominated Saturday Night
SAN ANGELO, TX — Sage Steele Kimzey made his mark on the 2021 San Angelo Rodeo with an 88-point ride, placing him tied in 3rd place overall and likely a slot at Friday’s Short Go, or finals. He is tied with Trey Benton III.
Kimzey survived a slate of Rafter H bucking bulls that current and recent champions of the PRCA didn’t overcome. The bulls took down stars like Jeff Askey on Rafter H’s Ready or Not, and Stetson Wright was bucked off Rafter H’s Dragon Energy and will not be in the Short Go. Tyler Bingham sneaked into 12th place with an 84.5-point score. There are two more performances before the finals for another bull rider to push him out of the Top 12. The Top 12 come back Friday for the finals that is also called the Short Go. Both Kimzey and Bingham rode new bulls just introduced Saturday night. We did not get the names.

How to understand the scores:
Bareback Riding - Each contestant will compete in 1 go round, or one “ride.” That is, each contestant has only one ride in any of the first 10 performances. The ride is scored on a 0-100 scale, the best ride having the higher number. The top twelve advance to the Finals on Friday, April 23 to compete for the Champion Bareback Title. There is no "average" until the Finals performance, just 1st go round rankings.
Steer Wrestling - Each contestant competes in two go rounds in back-to-back performances. For example, contestants up in the 1st performance, will also compete in the 2nd performance. Their elapsed time in their first performance competes for all 1st Go Round rankings, and their second run for the 2nd Go Round rankings. The sum of those two runs is called their average ranking, and the top 10 in the average after the 10th performance will advance to the Finals performance on Friday, April 23 for the Short-Go. The short-go time is added to their previous two times for their final "average" time, and the fastest total time on three runs wins the title.
Team Roping - Each contestant team competes in two go rounds in back-to-back performances. For example, contestants up in the 1st performance, will also compete in the 2nd performance. Their time in their first performance competes for all 1st Go Round rankings, and their second run for the 2nd Go Round rankings. The total of those two runs is their Average ranking, and the top 10 in the average after the 10th performance will advance to the Finals performance on Friday, April 23 for the Short-Go. The short-go time is added to their previous two times for their final "average" time, and the fastest total time on three runs wins the title.
Saddle Bronc Riding - Each contestant will compete in 1 Go Round- so just once in any of the first 10 performances. The top ten advance to the Finals on Friday, April 23 to compete for the Champion Saddle Bronc Title. There is no "average" until the Finals performance, just 1st go round rankings.
Tie Down Roping - Each contestant team competes in two go rounds in back-to-back performances.
Barrel Racing - In the Women's Barrel racing, all contestants competed on Monday, April 5 in the "Slack" event for their first go round time. The top 100 contestants (10 for each performance) advance to the "progressive" second round. The fastest woman on three runs will be the champion.
Bull Riding - Each contestant will compete in 1 Go Round- so just once in any of the first 10 performances. The top ten advance to the Finals on Friday, April 23 to compete for the Champion Saddle Bronc Title. There is no "average" until the Finals performance, just 1st go round rankings.
