San Angelo Rodeo Bull Riders: Ty Wallace Now in 3rd in Bull Riding, Sage Kimzey Hangs Tough

SAN ANGELO, TX — Those who watched Saturday’s performance of the San Angelo rodeo saw Ty Wallace move into third place in bull riding. He scored an 84 on 410 Hawaiian Punch from stock contractor Lancaster and Jones. Wallace, who has qualified for three National Finals Rodeo appearances in 2014, 1015, and 2017, is coming off an injury in 2019 where he broke his ankle in July just after returning to the circuit after a broken arm in January 2019 had healed.

Will San Angelo be the show where Wallace gets back into the running? Maybe so! Right now, his score is good enough to put him in the Short Go finals coming up in less than two weeks.

Wallace was one of just two bull riders who stayed on for the full eight seconds during Saturday afternoon’s third performance.

Six-time world champion Sage Kimzey was hyped up by rodeo announcer Boyd Palhamus before his ride on a new, young bull.

“He came out and kicked really hard to the right,” Kimsey said.

Halfway through the eight seconds, Kimsey’s rope pulled across the bull’s back. Kimsey called it a rookie mistake. When Kimsey knew what had happened, he said his primary focus shifted from staying on the bull for the full eight seconds to getting off the bull safely.

He lived unscathed to ride another day.

Kimsey didn’t disappoint Sunday during the stand-alone bull riding event called XTreme Bulls at the San Angelo rodeo. Sunday, he scored a combined 170.5 on two bulls, earning $2,508 for the day.
