Aggie Jacobs Crowley Takes Lead in Saddle Bronc Riding with an 88-Point Ride

SAN ANGELO, TX — Jacobs Crowley, with an engineering degree from Texas A&M, leads all the Saddle Bronc contestants after scoring an 88-point ride on C77 Total Equine’s Ruffy during the second performance of the San Angelo rodeo on January 31, 2020.

“It’s nice to get that horse under my belt,” he said. Crowley has ridden this same horse twice before. He said he thinks he knows him well.

Crowley won the 2015 PRCA Saddle Bronc World Championship. In 2016, he was the runner-up, earning just $3,000 less than Zeke Thurston, who was the title winner that year. He won the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) Saddle Bronc Riding title when he was a student at Texas A&M in College Station.

What is his secret? “I grew up in rodeo. You start out with the small ones (horses) and work your way up,” he said.

“I love Angelo,” Crowley said. The last time he performed here, at the 2019 Cinch Chute-Out, he scored and 87 for second place and took home $3,000. “I have a lot of friends here and there are some die hard Aggies here, too” he said.
