San Angelo’s Joel Harris Moves to No. 3 in World Standings

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo tie-down roper Joel Harris continues to put together a stellar season on the Professional Cowboys Rodeo Association tour, and he’s now up to No. 3 in the world standings.

Harris has season earnings of $75,543.36, which has him behind only defending world champion Riley Webb from Denton ($166,694.06) and Kindade Henry from Mount Pleasant ($135,635.03).

Harris, a 23-year-old who has been roping professionally since 2022, finished fourth in the world standings last year after qualifying for the National Finals Rodeo for the second time.

He is currently having a strong performance at the Ponoka Stampede in Canada, where he’s the average leader heading into the finals.

San Angelo ropers are making their presence felt in Ponoka as Dylan Hancock won the first round, and Ty Harris qualified for the finals along with his younger brother, Joel.

Overall, Hancock is 13th in the world standings, while Ty Harris is 17th. The top 15 qualify for the season-ending NFR.

Remarkably, San Angelo has had three representatives at the NFR the last two years with the Harris brothers and Hancock. Last year, all three finished in the top 10 as Joel Harris was fourth, Hancock was sixth and Ty Harris was ninth.

The PRCA summer run will continue with some of the tour’s biggest rodeos this month, including the Calgary Stampede (July 3-12) and Cheyenne Frontier Days (July 17-26).

San Angelo’s annual Roping Fiesta will be held Oct. 23-26.

Another West Texas competitor, Garden City's Jordan Driver, is currently 27th in the world standings as she chases her first NFR appearance.
