4 West Texas Competitors in Top 20 in World Rodeo Standings

SAN ANGELO, TX — As we head into the heart of the PRCA summer run, we have four competitors from our area who are in the chase to qualify for the National Finals Rodeo.

Three of the names are familiar ones as San Angelo tie-down ropers Joel Harris, Dylan Hancock and Ty Harris have all been at the NFR in recent years.

Last year, the three cowboys all finished in the top 10 in the world for the second consecutive year. It was the seventh NFR appearance for Ty Harris and second for his brother, Joel, and Hancock.

This year, Joel Harris is fourth in the world standings, while Hancock is seventh and Ty Harris is in 20th.

The top 15 qualify for the NFR in December.

A newcomer making a charge at the NFR this season is Garden City barrel racer Jordan Driver. She finished 26th last year during her rookie season, but she sits in 16th place this season.

There are numerous rodeos on the schedule in the coming weeks that will play a big part in all of the competitors’ NFR chances.

On the Texas circuit, there are rodeos this weekend in Big Spring, Decatur and Mesquite, followed by rodeos next week in Weatherford, Coleman, Gladewater and Cleburne.
