Three ASU Rodeo Athletes Qualify for National Finals

SAN ANGELO, TX - Three student-athletes from the Angelo State University Rodeo Team have qualified to compete in national finals events in May and June following strong individual performances during the team's 2025-26 season in the Lone Star Region on the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) circuit.

Logan Yarbrough, a natural resource management major from Palmer, will represent the ASU Rodeo Team at the National Finals Steer Roping - College Division on May 30 in Abilene. This is the second straight year that he has qualified for the national event.

To be eligible for the National Finals Steer Roping, a college student-athlete must amass at least 300 points during the season. Yarbrough posted 706 points for 2025-26, which ranks seventh nationally in the College Division.

Also representing ASU, Sam Lewis, a border and homeland security major from Amarillo, and Caleb Lake, an animal science major from Bayfield, Colorado, will compete at the 2026 College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) June 14-20 in Casper, Wyoming. Lewis will compete in tie-down roping, and Lake will compete in steer wrestling.

Only the top three individuals in the final standings of each event in each of the NIRA's 12 regions qualify for the CNFR. Lewis is the Reserve Champion in tie-down roping after finishing second in the Lone Star Region, and Lake finished third in the region in steer wrestling.

"I am very excited for Logan, Sam and Caleb on their individual qualifications," said ASU Rodeo Coach Casey Sisk. "They have worked hard all year, and these three young men have what it takes to bring national titles back here to ASU. I couldn't be more proud of all our team members and what they have accomplished this season."

Completing their third season on the NIRA circuit, the ASU men's team finished fourth overall in the Lone Star Region, and the ASU women's team finished fifth. The ASU men's team also posted its first event victory by winning the Vernon College Rodeo in November. Other top overall individual performances for ASU included:

  • Shayna Wimberly of Big Spring (accounting major) - 6th in Barrel Racing
  • Kalli Criswell of Mason (agribusiness) - 7th in Breakaway Roping
