Eldorado's Rodeo Man Signs with Howard College

ELDORADO, TX- The Rodeo Man from Eldorado has signed on to rope and wrangle at the collegiate level.

Cooper Meador, a senior at Eldorado High School, as signed with Howard College to rodeo. Meador signed his letter of intent on Tuesday, March 1 in the Eldorado auditorium with the family, friends, teachers, and coaches in attendance.

“This means a lot to me, to be able to go pursue my rodeo dreams that I’ve had since I was little bitty. As long as I can remember I’ve been on a horse, swinging a rope.” Cooper Meador said, “It means a lot to me that I get to take the next step.”

If your high school was unlucky enough to play Eldorado this season, you probably remember Meador catching touchdowns. You can watch Meador and the Eagle's win over the D'Hanis Cowboys HERE.

His competitiveness was required on the field, and it will be required as he takes the next step towards something he has wanted his entire life.

“This has been a goal that I’ve had for as long as I can remember.” Meador said, “Horses and rodeo have been such a big part of my life. I’ve been lucky enough to come to such a good school where I’ve done a lot of different things and now I’m in the time of my life where to pick one thing and get really good at it.”

The rodeo is a pretty broad category that includes, bull riding, bareback and saddle bronc riding, and steer wrestling. Meador’s focus will be on team roping.

Meador said, “I’m signing with Howard to do team rope and calf rope. We’re going to see how that goes. Hopefully I can get over there and we can try some other things out.”

One thing Cooper hasn’t forgotten is his family.

“Man, my family means the world to me. They’ve always been there to help me. They’ve given up so much for me just to pursue my goals and be in the position that I’m at today.” Meador said.

Meador would also like to get out and go across the country. Something he will have every opportunity to do.

“I’d love to compete in all the big, pro rodeos and just get around and see some new country all from the back of a horse.”
