Who Wants to be a Rodeo Princess?

SAN ANGELO, TX – Dozens of area children from 5 to 9 years old will try out to be a rodeo clown or princess in the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo starting in late January.

This year's try-out event will be held this Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Blair's Western Wear at 4230 Sherwood Way.

Kids are encouraged to dress as either a clown or princess, whichever they are trying out for. Children will be given a short interview as a part of the selection process.

Last year they had 48 try out and all of them were selected as Junior Rodeo Clowns and Princesses.  The Princesses and Rodeo Clowns help out with the Mutton Bustin' at each performance of the rodeo.

According to the San Angelo Stock Shown and Rodeo website, the Rodeo Clown and Rodeo Princess Contest is an annual event for youngsters age 5 through 9 to participate in the rodeo as an honorary rodeo clown or princess during the Mutton Bustin' event. The youngsters dress as they would during the rodeo event. Children will be asked a few questions by the San Angelo Rodeo Ambassadors.

The first Rodeo performance is Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. and the final performance is the Cinch Chute Out on Saturday Feb. 15.
