SAN ANGELO, TX – The 66th Annual Cinch Roping Fiesta is happening this weekend and you won’t want to miss it. Starting Friday, October 25 with a preliminary roping event the weekend will be jam-packed with events.
The event has been a staple in San Angelo since 1954 and has been an excellent way to get people excited for rodeo season and help generate revenue for the association in the offseason from the official stock show and rodeo events.
Many of the events are free to the public and will feature both up-and-coming contestants and professional rodeo personalities. The Roping Fiesta features several events throughout the weekend for all ages.
The Invitational Calf Roping historically showcases the world’s top-ranked calf ropers competing against regional talent. The event is held on the Saturday of Roping Fiesta weekend.
Match Roping is a twelve head roping contest between two calf ropers. They each will rope six head of calves in between the 2nd and 3rd go-rounds of the Invitational Calf Roping, and the other six head after the conclusion of the Invitational Calf Roping. The match roping is a winner take all $20,000 pot.
Steer Roping is held on Sunday of the Roping Fiesta weekend and features approximately 30 of the nation's top competitors in the event.
Double Mugging features a pair of mounted cowboys attempting to rope and tie yearling cattle. This is the final event of the Roping Fiesta and is a crowd favorite.
The Roping Fiesta also hosts the Cowboys Collectibles Show in the Foster Communications Coliseum and the Housley Communications Cattle Barn. Vendors offer women's, children and men's clothing, toys, accessories, home goods and more. The show will be open all weekend long and free to the public from 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Food vendors will be available on the weekend around the Outdoor Roping Arena and a concession stand will be open inside the 1st Community Credit Union Spur Arena during all of Cinch Roping Fiesta.
All events in the 1st Community Credit Union Spur Arena and the vendor show in the Cattle Barn and Coliseum are free admission. The only ticketed events are the Invitational Calf Roping & Match Roping, which are $12, and the Steer Roping and Double Mugging, which are $10.
