SAN ANGELO, TX — In it’s 86 year history, San Angelo’s rodeo has grown to be fifth in the nation.
Virtually everyone who is a celebrity in the world of pro Rodeo has or does make their way here on a regular basis.
Name a champion past or present in any event and you can lay odds that their road to the top came right though our coliseum.
But for all the VIP’s that have made an appearance, it’s surprising that no Texas Governor had ever been out to see us.
Governor Greg Abbott corrected that last night. The near capacity crowd rose to their feet to welcome him as he helped open the 2018 rodeo.
In his remarks, Governor Abbott applauded the success of the event, thanked the volunteers for their work, and recognized the efforts of our US Military for making such events possible.

Governor Abbott also delivered a strong message about the impact of such events on the future of our state,“I want to thank everybody here for doing your part to educate and support the next generation of Texans, to help them understand the important role that agriculture plays in the lifeblood of the State of Texas.”
