Karla Cardenas Seeks San Angelo ISD District 2 Seat
SAN ANGELO, TX — Karla Cardenas is campaigning for a seat on the San Angelo ISD Board of Trustees in Single-Member District 2.
The position is currently held by Lupita Arroyo, who is not seeking reelection. Cardenas is one of two candidates in the May 3 election, alongside Geneva Rodriguez.
In a recent interview, Cardenas said she wants to restore trust and transparency in the district.
“I just really want it to be the change that I want to see," she said. "Social media is going crazy right now, with everybody being keyboard warriors and saying what needs to be fixed. I want to be a part of the solution. Part of the solution is stepping up, and running for school board and that’s what I’m doing. So now that the lack of trust is there, I really want to bring that back to our district. I know that I can, I know that I can make changes. And I just, I know I'm the person for the job."
Cardenas criticized what she called poor communication from district leadership.
“One thing in particular I feel like needs to change is, and I’m sure you hear it every interview, is just being more upfront, more transparent," she said. "The parents deserve to know what’s happening."
Cardenas also addressed the district’s $397 million bond proposal, which voters will decide on in the May 3 election. She said she’s unsure whether the bond will pass but believes community division over the issue is harmful.
“It seems like you got half the city over here on this side, half over there, and I don’t like that. It’s not a good look," she said. "That’s not what San Angelo is about. I love San Angelo. I love Texas. I love our community. I don't like that. People from the outside are coming in to try to tell us what we need. When somebody like me, who's been born and raised here, knows what we need, we know what we need, we know what our community is about. So oh man, that being said, I just don't know if it will pass. I'm just not sure. But what I do know is that we do need help, and some changes need to happen somewhere."
“District 2, we deserve more than what we’ve been given, and I’ll make sure that you get it," she said.

I guess there was one positive note taken from her six minute interview. She has Kamala Harris beaten hands down in the “I am clueless” word salad department.
