Mayoral Candidate Juan Acevedo Outlines Vision for San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX – Mayoral candidate Juan Acevedo said he is running to serve the community and address infrastructure concerns, emphasizing the need for improved street lighting, sidewalks, and responsible fiscal planning.

Acevedo, originally from Del Rio, has lived in San Angelo for six years and previously served on the San Felipe Del Rio CISD school board for three years.

“I’m not a politician, I am not a good public speaker, but I want to get in here and help the community," he said.

If elected, Acevedo said his first 90 days would involve meeting with the city manager, police and fire chiefs, and business leaders to assess community needs.

Acevedo also proposed a policy requiring drug testing for elected officials, stating, “If the city employees, you know, the little people like me are out there and getting drug tests, why not the city council and the mayor and your city managers and the rest of the other departments as well."

On taxes, he said residents need relief amid two major bond proposals — one for San Angelo ISD and another for improvements to the Coliseum.

"We need a break for now," he said. "There’s got to be monies from the federal government. I don’t know if the city has a grant writer, but we need to have somebody out there that’s going to chase this money and apply for these monies."

Acevedo also emphasized economic growth, saying San Angelo should actively attract technology companies to create job opportunities for local graduates.

"We need to go out there and sell San Angelo," he said.

With the election approaching, Acevedo urged residents to get involved.

“I humbly ask for your vote and support,” he said.
