Patrick Keely Runs for San Angelo City Council SMD 4, Talks Transparency and Growth

SAN ANGELO, TX – Patrick Keely is one of two candidates running for Single Member District 4 (SMD 4) on the San Angelo City Council, facing Jamal Schumpert in the May 3 election.

Keely, a 2007 Angelo State University graduate, has lived in San Angelo since attending college. His professional background includes real estate, the oil industry, and business management.

Keely discussed his campaign priorities, including transparency, communication, and economic development.

Keely said that improving access to information about City Council decisions is one of his main concerns. He stated that he would like to see agendas made more accessible ahead of meetings and suggested using newsletters and digital updates to provide information to residents.

“My biggest thing I want to bring is transparency," Keely said. "That’s what I feel like most people have asked for. That’s what I’ve wanted myself."

Keely also spoke about economic development and job creation, stating that attracting new businesses to San Angelo could help address financial concerns. He said infrastructure improvements should be a focus, particularly in anticipation of future interstate expansion.

“The reason we’re having to do bonds and raise property tax rates is because we don’t have any more money coming in,” Keely said. “If we had more money coming in to keep up with the cost of inflation and the cost of basically doing business as a city, we wouldn’t have to raise tax rates.”

When asked why he decided to run, Keely said, "I'm gonna be transparent. I'm gonna be informative. I am going to listen to my constituents and actually try to give you a voice because that's what I've wanted for myself."

"I've got kids growing up here," he said. "I want San Angelo to thrive, so I have nothing but the best interest of the city in my heart."

The election for SMD 4 will take place on May 3, along with races for mayor, SMD 2, and SMD 6. Voter registration details and election information are available at VoteTexas.gov.
