Good Question for Biden: Is That the Choice, $5 a Gallon Gas or a $61,000 Electric Car?
WASHINGTON, DC — Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy took aim at President Joe Biden’s new press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre by asking if the president’s policy means that Americans have to choose between $5 a gallon gas or purchasing a $61,000 electric car. Watch the video above.
Here are the highlights:
DOOCY: "Right now who can afford an electric car? The average price is $61,000.”
JEAN-PIERRE: "We’re going to continue to move forward with — we have put forward the bipartisan infrastructure — (crosstalk)”
DOOCY: "Is that realistic? Is that the choice, $5 a gallon gas or a $61,000 electric car?”
JEAN-PIERRE: "That is not — first of all, you're — that’s apples and oranges, it's not the same. What we’re trying to do right now is to deal with an acute problem right now, which is why the President, again, asked for a 90-day suspension of the gas tax, the gas tax holiday. It is going to make a difference. Peter, we’re talking about 18 cents on the federal — on the federal level.”
Jean-Pierre also claimed that at the state level gasoline prices could be further reduced to a 30 cent reduction total. And, if oil companies operating refineries would pour most of their profits back into lowering the cost of gas, the U.S. could see a $1 per gallon reduction in gas prices.
AAA reported that on June 24, the national average cost of a gallon of Regular was $4.926. Last year on this date, the Regular gas average was just $3.078, according to the AAA. In Tom Green County, the average cost of a gallon of Regular was $4.338
