WATCH: WTLS Exclusive Interview with Senator Charles Perry
SAN ANGELO, TX – Senator Charles Perry discusses several issues affection Texas at the moment in an exclusive interview with San Angelo LIVE! at the West Texas Legislative Summit. When the democrats fled the state The Senator explains that they acted within their rights. However he explains that the democrats made the wrong move when it comes to their constituents.
“The house democrats fled which is within their rights. The veteran members of the senate stayed because they knew this would end badly. The people, democrats or republican, want people to do their job, and so they certainly don’t look good.”
“Bottom line is the democrats are gonna have to come back. In September their is a redistricting session which they really need to be here for. The longer they stay away the more they hurt texans and the more pressure they put on us”
Regarding the election laws. The senator explains that the legislature needs too sure up holes in the law which can enable fraud. “A huge concern of the bill is mail in ballots. The bill ensures that ballots will not be one sent out to every registered voter w/o requiring requests
And then twenty four hour voting. I don’t think that they're a disproportionate amount of minorities that need to vote after 10 o’clock. I don’t think the data supports it.”
“I think that people are happy with and accustomed to the standard voting process in Texas.” The senator wants to turn the standard process into the law.
Another point of concern with the Senator is Bail reform. He explains a little know issue, “Because of the progressive social justice workers that have taken over the judge seats in recent sessions giving bonds to violent repeat offenders. These offenders have killed 120 people in the past two years in Harris county. 5 in the past month. What we want to do is pass bond guidelines which restrict who is eligible to be bonded out.”
Also the Senator touches on Birth Control. “The Biden administration is pushing the FDA to say that the abortion pill can be distributed without a doctors visit as has been the rule as long as the procedure has existed. This requirement will be revoked on November 1 and Texas is working on getting a new rule on the books before that date. Because if you take this pill and your past 10 weeks you may die. If you are not pregnant you may day. This is really about the health of the mothers.” He explains as much as it pains him to work on Birth Control matters as a wholly Pro-Life republican, the health of the people of Texas is his main concern.
Going back to election concerns, “I do not think there was any election fraud in my cities. I trust and believe in my election officials. However I believe that the Election in Pennsylvania necessitated a Supreme Court review.
It is UT’s right to leave to the SEC but I believe the way they handled it was under the table. I think UT should have considered what is best for the state as a whole. You know of UT’s birth right the endowment set up by the state constitution which grants 2/3 of the many billions to UT and 1/3 to TA&M, I think that this endowment needs to be split more fairly 1/3 to UT, 1/3 TA&M, and 1/3 to the rest of the states institutions. The move away from the Big 12 just highlights the Texas school system and what the role of the state of Texas In higher education.
