WATCH: The Growing Conservative Hispanic Voice
SAN ANGELO, TX – It's not everyday San Angelo gets to welcome a nationally known blogger and commentator like George Rodriguez, also known as "El Conservador," like it did in early February.
Rodriguez is known for his guest appearances on conservative media outlets such as Fox News and Newsmax not to mention having served as a White House appointee in the Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush Administrations then later becoming the president of the San Antonio Tea Party in 2011. He is the first Hispanic president of a major Tea Party group in America, and Rodriguez was excited to speak before a group like the San Angelo Republican Women.
After all, it's speakers like Rodriguez who are not only giving a voice to more conservatives in Texas but more uniquely, the Hispanic conservatives across the state.
Outside of South Florida, Latinos showed heavy support for Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential race and it was in areas like Zapata County (94 percent population is Hispanic) in South Texas where support for the GOP grew tremendously allowing Trump to become the first Republican presidential candidate to win the county for the first time in a hundred years not to mention see more than usual support along the border for a Republican candidate.
As a Mexican-American Rodriguez isn't afraid to challenge hot button issues in the Hispanic community such as immigration. Something even his grandparents felt strongly about.
"My grandparents fought against illegal immigration because illegal immigration particularly from Mexico at that time and now from Latin America and other third world countries... Well, these folks compete for low wage jobs and low skill jobs with Americans," said Rodriguez.
What makes Rodriguez appealing to conservatives across the country is his ability to tell it like it is. From immigration and cancel culture to the rise in Hispanic conservatives and if Robert Francis O'Rourke has a chance to turn Texas blue in the upcoming governor's race. Rodriguez shared his thoughts. Watch the video above.
