Conaway: The Exit Interview, Part 4

SAN ANGELO, TX — Congressman K. Michael Conaway served Congressional District 11 for 8 terms, since his election in 2004. He announced his retirement in August 2019 and he will step down before the new congress meets in January 2021 when newly-elected August Pfluger, also a Republican, takes over.

In segment 2 of 5, we asked Conaway how he rose to prominence with the House Republican leadership. He talks about how he found fraud at the National Republican Campaign Committee, the NRCC, and it set the stage for things to come.

Congressional District 11 spans 29 west Texas counties, from Granbury to Llano, and then from there, the district stretches west through San Angelo to the Permian Basin.

Conaway served as the ranking member of the House Committee on Agriculture this past congress, but when the Republicans held the majority in the House, Conaway was the Ag Committee chairman. His signature accomplishment was passing into law the Farm Bill of 2018.

Conaway also served on the House Armed Services Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence where he was chosen to lead what is known as the “Russia Investigation” of possible collusion between the 2016 presidential campaign of Donald Trump and the Russians. The investigation uncovered no collusion.

Conaway has seen much happen in the federal government since his service as this region’s congressman began 16 years ago when his good friend George W. Bush was president. He endured the Afghanistan, the Iraq War, the Obama years, and was an integral part of history during the presidency of Donald Trump.

We interviewed Conaway about his time in Washington and present these videoed interviews as “Conaway: The Exit Interview” in five parts. Please watch above and enjoy!
