Conaway: Trump's Trade Policy is Working, Even if There's a Trade War with China
SAN ANGELO, TX — Congressman Mike Conaway (R-Midland) argued the tough trade policy of the Trump Administration will pay off for Americans.
He also said the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement must be passed. It’s an upgrade over the old North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, especially for agriculture.
Conaway said the U.S. will win the trade war with China and will end up in a better position after it is over. The trade war is a proxy for dealing with all the issues we currently have with China.
“It is having an impact on [our] economics,” Conaway said. “That’s part of the price of standing up too a bully.”
In the end, Conaway said the U.S. is in a better position economically to prevail in a trade conflict with China.
Towards the end of the interview, Conaway remembers the atmosphere in his district before the candidacy of President Donald Trump. He recalled how frustrated constituents were towards the end of the Obama administration.
