SAN ANGELO, TX — Tom Green County voters gave a strong victory to Attorney General Ken Paxton over U.S. Sen. John Cornyn in the Republican primary runoff for U.S. Senate, according to final unofficial cumulative results released Tuesday Night.
Paxton led Cornyn 4,377 votes to 2,450, or 64.1% to 35.9%. The results mirrored statewide trends, where Paxton defeated the incumbent senator by a similar margin and claimed the GOP nomination.
In the Republican runoff for attorney general, state Sen. Mayes Middleton edged U.S. Rep. Chip Roy 3,461 votes to 3,274, or 51.4% to 48.6%.
For railroad commissioner, Jim Wright led Bo French 3,417 votes to 3,110, or 52.4% to 47.6%. In the race for judge on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 3, Thomas Smith defeated Alison Fox 3,533 votes to 2,683, or 56.8% to 43.2%.
Democratic turnout was far lower. State Rep. Vikki Goodwin won the lieutenant governor nomination over Marcos Isaias Velez 555 votes to 271, or 67.2% to 32.8%. State Sen. Nathan Johnson narrowly led former Galveston Mayor Joe Jaworski for attorney general, 417 votes to 405, or 50.7% to 49.3%.
The figures represent the final unofficial cumulative totals from the May 26 primary runoff election.
