SAN ANTONIO, TX — U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, a Texas Republican, announced Thursday night that he will not seek re-election after completing his third term in Congress.
Gonzales, who represents Texas' 23rd Congressional District, cited deep reflection and family support in his decision. He pledged to serve out the remainder of his term with full commitment to his constituents.

“At 18, I swore an oath to defend our nation against all enemies, foreign and domestic," Gonzales said in a statement. "During my 20 years in the military and three terms in Congress, I have fought for that cause with absolute dedication to the country that I love.”
Gonzales highlighted his work on issues including the border crisis and community support after the worst school shooting in Texas history. He said his philosophy remains unchanged: “do as much as you can, and always fight for the greater good.”
