Pfluger Demands Immigration Records After Antisemitic Terror Attack in Colorado

WASHINGTON, DC — In response to the recent antisemitic terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, U.S. Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX), chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, has formally requested immigration records for the suspect — an Egyptian national accused of overstaying his visa.

In a letter sent jointly with Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark E. Green (R-TN), the congressmen asked Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to provide the alien file of Mohamed Sabry Soliman, the suspect now facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, use of incendiary devices, and federal hate crimes.

“The Committee on Homeland Security is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the immigration history of Mohamed Sabry Soliman,” the letter stated. “An Egyptian national now facing felony charges after he carried out a terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado.”

According to the chairmen, Soliman’s immigration record includes an expired visa, work authorization, and a pending asylum application. They argue the case highlights what they called a growing national security risk posed by foreign nationals who remain in the U.S. unlawfully.

“This tragedy is indicative of a heightened terrorism threat on U.S. soil, signaling an urgent need for increased homeland security measures,” the letter continued, “particularly with respect to foreign nationals who are unlawfully present in the United States, as Soliman reportedly overstayed a nonimmigrant visa.”

Pfluger’s office cited several other recent incidents involving foreign nationals accused of crimes after overstaying visas. Among them was an alleged attempted breach of Marine Corps Base Quantico last year by two Jordanian nationals, one of whom remains at large. Others include arrests of Palestinian student protesters in New York, a Hungarian national accused of double murder, and a 2022 case in California involving a Mexican national who overstayed his visa and later killed four people.

The lawmakers also referenced an October 2024 shooting in Chicago, where an undocumented immigrant allegedly shot a Jewish man near a synagogue.
