WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump asked Congress on Friday to consider ending daylight saving time.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said it would be “Very popular and, most importantly, no more changing of the clocks, a big inconvenience and, for our government, A VERY COSTLY EVENT!!!”
Trump’s post came a day after a Senate panel heard testimony on whether to set one time instead of moving the clock an hour forward or back every six months.
First adopted as a wartime measure in 1942, daylight saving time is still recognized in most parts of the U.S.
However, it is unpopular with many people as it negatively affects sleep and generally disrupts their normal schedule.
In 2022, the Senate unanimously approved a measure that would end the semi-annual clock changing, but it did not advance.
