Texas Lawmaker Files Bill to Abolish Texas Parks and Wildlife Department

AUSTIN, TX – A Texas lawmaker has filed a bill that would abolish the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and transfer its responsibilities to other state agencies.

State Rep. Pat Curry (R-Waco) introduced House Bill 4938, which proposes reallocating TPWD’s functions to the General Land Office, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Public Safety. The bill also calls for the redistribution of funds designated for TPWD to the agencies assuming its duties.

If passed, the legislation would take effect on Sept. 1, 2025.
