WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congress certified President-elect Donald Trump’s victory Monday, solidifying his return to the presidency as he prepares to take office on Jan. 20.
Ironically, Monday’s event occurred on the four-year anniversary of the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, which liberal media outlets blamed on Trump despite the fact he asked his supporters to be peaceful.
The majority of American voters weren’t swayed by the narrative and overwhelmingly chose Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris in November’s election.
Harris had to preside over Monday’s session as president of the Senate.
Security around the Capitol was heightened, with police stationed throughout the building and nearby streets restricted to vehicle traffic.
Trump is preparing his agenda as he approaches inauguration. He expressed a desire to pass his key policies through “one big, beautiful bill,” with Republican leaders signaling readiness to support his plans. However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune remained noncommittal about combining policies into a single bill.
With the certification finalized, Trump is set to assume office later this month, marking a significant moment in the nation’s political history.
