Rep. Pfluger, Sen. Hoeven Lead Effort to Block Biden’s Natural Gas Tax

WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman August Pfluger and Senator John Hoeven have introduced a resolution to block the Biden Administration’s Natural Gas Tax, a measure they argue will increase energy costs for Americans and stifle production in key regions like the Permian Basin.

Pfluger (TX-11) and Hoeven (R-ND) introduced a bicameral Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution of disapproval to block implementation of the Biden Administration’s Natural Gas Tax, which was passed as part of the Inflation Reduction Act, "Democrats’ reckless tax-and-spend legislation in 2022."

New fees or taxes on energy companies will raise costs for customers, creating a burden that will fall most heavily on lower-income Americans, information from Pfluger's office states.

The information continues to state that the Natural Gas Tax would hurt energy producers in the Permian Basin by stifling production, innovation, and capital investment.

“President Biden’s promise to end fossil fuels hurt the hardworking energy producers of my district who have worked diligently to increase production while fueling our allies abroad,” said Rep. Pfluger. “If implemented, the ill-conceived natural gas tax will handicap technological innovation, reduce supplies of affordable energy, and increase both costs and emissions. I am proud to lead this CRA to rescind implementation of the natural gas tax.”

“American households and businesses depend every day on access to affordable and reliable energy,” said Senator Hoeven. “The best way to bring down prices for U.S. consumers is to increase supply. That’s why we’re working to rescind policies like the Natural Gas Tax, among the many other costly and burdensome taxes and regulations imposed under the Biden administration. Doing so will help unleash our domestic energy production and make our nation energy dominant once again.”

“The Waste Emissions Charge is just another unnecessary and wasteful regulation levied by the EPA to go after oil and gas - the lifeblood of our economy," said Rep. Arrington. "I’m proud to join my colleague and neighbor, Rep. August Pfluger, in preserving reliable, low-cost energy produced by our independent oil and gas companies by fighting to repeal this burdensome regulation, and getting a head start on President Trump’s pro-growth, energy DOMINANCE agenda.”

The CRA is cosponsored by U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Mike Lee (R-UT), James Lankford (R-OK), Katie Britt (R-AL), Steve Daines (R-MT), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), James Risch (R-ID) and Roger Marshall (R-KS) and Congressman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) in the House of Representatives.
