AUSTIN, TX – Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has voiced his disagreement with Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s initiative to ban all consumable THC products in the state.
Miller’s comments come as Patrick pushes Senate Bill 3 in the upcoming legislative session, which he clarified will not affect Texas’ Compassionate Use Program for medical cannabis.
“Not everyone is on the same page on this,” Miller said in response to a social media question about the government’s stance on THC. He called for consensus within the GOP, adding, “It’s time to support the will of Texans.”
As it stands, Texas law permits consumable hemp products with no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC and allows limited medical cannabis use under the Compassionate Use Program. However, recent polling indicates evolving public opinion: a Texas Lyceum survey from May showed 60% of Texans support marijuana legalization, with nearly half favoring the decriminalization of small amounts.
Miller, who opposes recreational marijuana, has long supported expanding medical cannabis access.
“This is about freedom,” Miller said during an interview. “It’s about less regulation. It's about less government."
