CHICAGO, IL — People attending the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this week can also get a free abortion or vasectomy while they’re in the area.
Planned Parenthood Great Rivers is sending a mobile health center, which will be set up blocks from the event, to help attendees take advantage of their services.
“There are going to be people traveling to Chicago from all over the country,” said Dr. Colleen McNicholas, the chief medical officer of Planned Parenthood Great Rivers, to the New York Times.
“And I think we should be doing what we can as health care providers to show what the impact of good policy and bad policy is.”
Abortion has been one of the main Democrat talking points this election cycle after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, sending the legality of abortion rights from a federal level back to the states.
Another group, Americans for Contraception, erected an 18-foot-tall inflatable intrauterine device, or IUD, named “Freeda Womb.”
Other activists were reportedly planning a “Hotties for Harris” event.
Businesses in downtown Chicago didn’t seem quite as enthusiastic, however, as some had boarded up their doors and windows before the DNC in anticipation of anti-Israeli protestors, according to the New York Post.
