WASHINGTON, DC — A vice presidential debate has been agreed upon by Republican nominee J.D. Vance and Democrat Tim Walz.
The debate is set for Oct. 1 on CBS in New York City.
Vance has repeatedly proposed a second debate and did so again in a post on X, but current Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign quickly shot it down.
“Donald Trump’s campaign accepted our proposal for three debates — two presidential and a vice presidential debate,” Harris campaign spokesman Michael Tyler wrote in a statement. “Assuming Donald Trump actually shows up on Sept. 10 to debate Vice President Harris, then Gov. Walz will see J.D. Vance on Oct. 1 and the American people will have another opportunity to see the vice president and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October.”
Vance wrote that more debates would be beneficial to voters.
“The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has challenged Kamala to three of them already,” Vance wrote. “Not only do I accept the CBS debate on October 1st, I accept the CNN debate on September 18th as well. I look forward to seeing you at both!”
The first presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Harris will take place Sept. 10 on ABC.
Trump had previously announced he agreed to an offer from FOX to debate Harris on Oct. 4, but her campaign declined the offer.
The ABC debate was originally to be between Trump and President Joe Biden, but Biden’s cognitive decline was finally fully revealed to the American public during a debate June 27.
Biden left the race soon after, and Harris suddenly vaulted into the top spot as the Democratic presidential candidate.
According to polls, her popularity has surged since then, despite the fact she polled last year as the least popular vice president ever.
