SAN ANGELO, Texas – Former police officer Bruce Burkett has endorsed Travis Griffith for San Angelo Police Chief in the May 4, 2024 municipal election.
San Angelo LIVE! encourages and publishes letters of endorsements and letters to the editor about candidates for public office. They can be emailed to [email protected]. Early voting for the May 4 election continues in the Keyes building downtown from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m Monday and Tuesday, April 29 and 30.
Below is Burkett's letter:
"Early voting for the Police Chief race has already begun, but here is my endorsement. I believe Travis Griffithwill be the best choice for the Job.
I think electing Travis is a vote for the Institution rather than the individual, and I mean no disrespect or slight to any candidate putting themselves out there to run for the job.
Our community wants an elected Chief at Polce Department, and the individual that wins no matter the rank or time in service will be required to attend a Chief of Police school. Just for the record the majority of Police Chiefs elected in San Angelo have been from the Sergeant or Patrol Officer ranks.
Job Satisfaction along with a great place to bring up family weighs in on the decision to take or turn down a higher paying job elsewhere. From the beginning of his campaign Travis has talked about plans to make job satisfaction at the police department one of his first priorities.
Please cast your vote for TRAVIS GRIFFITH as our next Chief of Police. Early voting is going on now from 8AM to 5PM weekdays at the Edd B. Keyes Building downtown. Election Day is Saturday, May 4th."

PermalinkI told Griffith a long time ago that he is welcome to use our platform to present letters of support. He chose not to. Mr. Burkett thought it would be nice if there was a letter of support for his candidate on San Angelo LIVE! and he submitted his letter outside the Griffith campaign workflow.
Griffith's campaign strategy appears to be to isolate, personalize and attack San Angelo LIVE! I am sure it is all a part of Jesus' plan. By withholding campaign letters of support and other ways, he has attempted to portray my company as "in the tank" for Hernandez and that is not the case at all. --Joe
