Over Half of U.S. Governors Stand With Abbott Against the Feds Sunday in Eagle Pass

EAGLE PASS, TX – In a show of solidarity with Texas Governor Greg Abbott's commitment to address the border crisis, 13 governors from across the United States joined him in Eagle Pass on Sunday. The press conference, held at Shelby Park, included notable figures such as Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, and Idaho Governor Brad Little, among others.

During the conference, Governor Abbott expressed his concerns over President Joe Biden's handling of the border crisis, accusing him of neglecting constitutional duties to protect Americans by failing to secure the southern border. The participating governors, representing half of America's states, joined forces to support Texas in its efforts to defend against the repercussions of the Biden administration's border policies.

Governors Bill Lee, Brian Kemp, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Greg Gianforte took the opportunity to address President Biden's alleged negligence in securing the border and emphasized the unity of states rallying behind Texas during the press conference. The full press conference can be viewed here.

Governor Abbott provided updates on the ongoing operations of Texas National Guard soldiers and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers at Shelby Park, thanking the participating governors for their collective commitment to stepping up in the absence of federal action.

Key figures at the press conference included Texas Department of Public Safety Deputy Director Freeman Martin, Texas Adjutant General Major General Thomas Suelzer, Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, and Texas Border Czar Mike Banks. Prior to the press conference, Governor Abbott briefed fellow governors on the severe consequences of President Biden's failure to secure the border.

Deputy Director Freeman Martin highlighted Operation Lone Star's success in seizing over 458 million lethal doses of fentanyl, emphasizing the impact on border security. Major General Thomas Suelzer outlined the efforts of Texas National Guard soldiers in fortifying the Texas-Mexico border, including the expansion of Shelby Park as a base camp. Border Czar Mike Banks underscored the effectiveness of Operation Lone Star in reducing border crossings in areas where Texas National Guard and DPS personnel are deployed.

Governor Abbott's border visit follows a letter sent to President Biden last month, asserting Texas' constitutional right to defend itself in the face of the Biden administration's attacks and failure to secure the border. Currently, 14 states have joined forces with Texas, deploying personnel and resources to support border security efforts in the absence of federal action.
