San Angelo Attorney Gonzalo Rios is Running for District Judge

SAN ANGELO – Local attorney Gonzalo Rios is set to make a significant announcement regarding his candidacy for the 119th District Judge on Monday, November 27th, at 5:30 p.m. This announcement is scheduled to take place on the steps of the Tom Green County Courthouse

Rios is vying to succeed Judge Ben Woodward, who has opted not to pursue another term. The 119th court holds jurisdiction over Concho, Runnels, and Tom Green Counties.

Rios is the first candidate to enter the race for the open District Judge seat in the March Primary election.

Hailing from San Angelo, Rios is a native and an alumnus of Central High School. His academic journey led him to acquire a Bachelor’s degree in Government and a Master of Business Administration from Angelo State University. He furthered his education by obtaining a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Thurgood Marshall Law School in Houston.

With a legal practice spanning over 30 years, Rios boasts extensive expertise in various areas of law, including Family, Criminal, Child Protective Services, and Appellate law. He stands as one of the initial local attorneys authorized to handle capital cases and has also contributed as an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at ASU. His commendable efforts in pro bono work, mentorship of fellow attorneys, and an accolade in Commercial Law with an American Jurisprudence Award have earned him recognition.

To support his campaign, retired County Judge Steve Floyd will serve as treasurer. As a Republican candidate, Rios will feature on the ballot for the March 5th primary.

The final day to file for the seat is Dec. 11, 2023.
