SAN ANGELO – Republican John Best, the current 119th District Attorney, announced his bid Thursday for a third term representing Tom Green, Runnels, and Concho Counties.
Assuming office on June 1, 2016, following an appointment by Governor Gregg Abbott, Best has exhibited unwavering dedication to his role. Overseeing a team of 30 prosecutors, legal assistants, and investigators, Best has been deeply engaged in prosecuting high-stakes felony cases within the district. His relentless pursuit of justice has been a cornerstone of his tenure.
Best will be on the Republican Primary Ballot March 5, 2024.
Best's commitment to safeguarding the community from violent offenders is evident in his track record. Leading prosecution in 17 murder cases, he secured 16 convictions, resulting in two life sentences and a successful Capital Murder case that resulted in Life Without Parole.
Beyond his focus on violent crimes, Best has prioritized protecting children in the community. Prosecuting nearly two dozen defendants for child crimes, he notably obtained a significant 45-year sentence for a child-molester from Concho County. Collaborating with the local Children's Advocacy Center, he spearheaded the establishment of the first multi-disciplinary team investigating child crimes in Runnels County.
While targeting violent criminals, Best has also prosecuted various felony offenders, ranging from drug dealers to burglars, ensuring that justice prevails. Impressively, throughout his 22-year tenure in the District Attorney’s Office, none of Best's convictions have been overturned on appeal.
Looking ahead, Best expresses eagerness to continue advocating for justice in Tom Green, Runnels, and Concho Counties. He hopes his proven efforts inspire confidence in the community, garnering support for his ongoing service.
