WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House remains without a Speaker after Ohio Republican lost the first round of votes following his nomination.
The defeat occurred when 20 House Republicans crossed the aisle to cast their votes for other members of the House.
Locally, San Angelo Congressman from CD-11, August Pfluger, supported Jordan, while neighboring Congressman Tony Gonzales voted for Steve Scalise.
With no winner emerging on Tuesday, the House will continue to vote until a Speaker of the House is chosen. The contenders include Jordan, Scalise, former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, and Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
