WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman August Pfluger released the following statement Tuesday prior to the State of the Union address:
The American people deserve a President who is working to make our nation safer and more prosperous. Unfortunately, after two years under President Biden, the State of our Union is bleak. His policies have driven our country into an economic and national security crisis. Average Americans are paying $10,000 more in 2023 for the same goods and services they bought in 2021. Nearly one third of households are struggling to pay their energy bills, and one in five families are having to forgo necessities to keep the lights on. Over 5 million illegal migrants have crossed our southern border along with an unknown amount of drugs, terrorists and weapons. Meanwhile, our biggest adversary China is emboldened by the foreign policy failures of this administration and continue to test America’s resolve through a variety of tactics, including the recent spy balloon incursion into U.S. airspace. These issues can be solved with smart economic solutions and renewed American strength. I hope President Biden will correct course and work with the legislative agenda that House Republicans are proposing to restore American energy dominance, bring down inflation, secure the border, and make our government accountable again.”
