Jenkins Congratulates Carter on Win as Tom Green County Judge

San Angelo – Tom Green County Judge write-in candidate Gary Jenkins congratulated Republican Lane Carter on winning the general election Tuesday night.  Carter won with 97% of the vote.

Jenkins began his campaign attempting to be an independent candidate on the ballot but failed to secure enough eligible signatures.  He later filed as an official write-in candidate for Tom Green County Judge.  Carter received 25,962 votes; Jenkins received 870 votes and there were 5,059 voters who cast ballots but did not vote in the County Judge race.

Below is the letter from Gary Jenkins:

Congratulations to Lane Carter in winning the election for Tom Green County Judge!  I think he will do well.  The voters of Tom Green County have spoken and made their choice.  I’m happy for Lane and pray for his success in this new position of leadership.  I want to thank

everyone who supported and voted for me, especially my wife, Pastor Marcella Jenkins, who served as my campaign manager and Ms. Sandra Gray, who was my treasurer.

I am deeply grateful to God and to all of those who supported my campaign.  I believe that in our democratic society voters should have choices in political races.  That’s one of the reasons I ran in the first place, simply to give voters a choice.  I knew this was going to be an uphill battle.

from the beginning but believe in our democratic process.
