AUSTIN, TX – The National Rifle Association's Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) Wednesday announced its formal endorsement of Senator Dawn Buckingham, MD (R-Lakeway) for Texas Land Commissioner.
In a statement announcing the endorsement, NRA Chairman Jason Ouimet said of Senator Buckingham, “Your commitment to protecting Texans’ right to self-defense is demonstrated by your support for nearly two dozen pro-gun bills over the last four years in the Texas Senate. These measures include the historic NRA-backed constitutional carry law and groundbreaking NRA-supported emergency powers reform. Furthermore, we truly appreciate your support for interagency cooperation to protect and potentially expand publicly accessible hunting lands throughout the state.”
Founded in 1871, the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) is the most prominent gun rights advocacy group in the United States. With nearly 5 million members, the NRA works in Washington, DC and state capitols around the country to protect the Second Amendment and advocate for legislation that supports the individual right to keep and bear arms.
“As an avid hunter and lifelong supporter of the Second Amendment, I’m honored to earn the endorsement of the NRA,” said Buckingham. “In the Texas Senate, I’ve been an unwavering supporter of the right to bear arms and voted for the Constitutional Carry bill to ensure that law-abiding adults are able to carry a handgun for their personal protection without needing a government permit. As our next Texas Land Commissioner, I’ll continue to support the right of hunters and all citizens to exercise responsible gun ownership.”
Dr. Dawn Buckingham is an experienced oculoplastic surgeon, an avid hunter, a seventh-generation Texan, and a lifelong conservative Republican. In 2016, Buckingham was elected to represent District 24 in the Texas Senate, a 17-county region of West Texas and the Texas Hill Country. Dawn and her husband Ed (also a surgeon) have two children in college and reside in Lakeway, Texas.
