Texas Oil & Gas Association Endorses Senator Buckingham for Land Commissioner

AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA) announced its endorsement of Senator Dawn Buckingham, MD (R-Lakeway) Thursday in the Republican primary for Texas Land Commissioner. The Texas Oil & Gas Association is a statewide trade association representing every facet of the Texas oil and gas industry including small independents and major producers.

“The Texas Oil & Gas Association Good Government Committee is pleased to endorse Dawn Buckingham for Commissioner of the General Land Office,” said Todd Staples, Treasurer of Texas Oil & Gas Association Good Government Committee. “Buckingham has a strong track record of putting Texans first. As our next Commissioner of the General Land Office, we look forward to working with Dawn Buckingham on policies that promote responsible oil and natural gas production, create jobs, and safeguard our energy security."

Founded in 1919, TXOGA is the oldest and largest oil and natural gas trade association in Texas. Collectively, the membership of TXOGA produces more than 80 percent of Texas’ crude oil and natural gas, operates over 80 percent of the state’s refining capacity, and is responsible for the vast majority of the state’s pipelines. In fiscal year 2020, the oil and natural gas industry supported more than 400,000 direct jobs and paid $13.9 billion in state and local taxes and state royalties, funding our state’s schools, roads, and first responders.

Dr. Dawn Buckingham is an experienced oculoplastic surgeon, an avid hunter, a seventh-generation Texan, and a lifelong conservative Republican. In 2016, Buckingham was elected to represent District 24 in the Texas Senate, a 17-county region of West Texas and the Texas Hill Country. Dawn and her husband Ed (also a surgeon) have two children in college and reside in Lakeway, Texas.
