Councilman Lane Carter Steps Down to Run For County Judge

SAN ANGELO, TX –– After 5 years of serving as a San Angelo city council member, Lane Carter announced on social media Tuesday he will be stepping down from his position to run for Tom Green County Judge.

Carter made the announcement on Facebook on Tuesday afternoon.

"Hello Friends and Family! As some of you may know, today was my last council meeting as the representative for Single Member District 5 for the city of San Angelo. It was very bittersweet as I have thoroughly enjoyed representing my constituents to the best of my ability," wrote Carter. "I want to thank everyone who has supported me during my time on council and I also ask for your continued support in this decision. I have prayed about this decision and if His will, I would be honored to serve in this capacity for my community! "

During Tuesday's city council meeting, Carter was bid farewell with hugs and well wishes.

According to the post, Carter will officially announce his candidacy for county judge on Thursday afternoon on the Tom Green County Courthouse steps.

This will make Carter the fourth candidate to enter the race in the last few weeks. At this time Joe Hyde, Tommy Usery, and Todd Kolls have appointed a campaign treasurer.
