Not Everyone is Happy with the End of the 3rd Special Legislative Session

AUSTIN, TX — The Texas Legislature early Tuesday ended its third special session of the year after passing new political district maps plus a law that protects female athletes in public schools from having to compete with male athletes.

The bills passed in this special session are in addition to new laws passed earlier this year, including the most restrictive anti-abortion law in the country and measures that protect voter integrity.

Not all Texans are happy with the laws passed by the legislature in the regular session and three special sessions.

Texas Freedom Network President Val Benavidez says the remaining Texas Democrats and others who oppose the laws passed by the legislature have only one choice; vote:

“The best thing that can be said about the special session is that it's over and Texans can take a breath knowing that, at least for the moment, Gov. Abbott and state Republicans are not inside the Capitol actively dreaming up new ways to limit their voices or take away their rights.

“Our message to those Texans is this: The only way this stops is via the ballot box. For too long, Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick and their allies have operated with impunity, thinking they can take away any right they please and target our most vulnerable for discrimination.

“Now more than ever, we need every single fair-minded Texan to show up at the next election and every election after that. Let's use our ballots to send a message to those in power that Texans are welcoming and reject those who seek to use their power to discriminate and to hurt the most vulnerable among us.”

The Texas Freedom Network is a small, far-left social justice grass roots organization promoting progressive causes.
