City Council Votes to Support the Right to Life But Sanctuary City Ordinance in Limbo

SAN ANGELO, TX –– After meeting with the city attorney during a closed session to discuss the possible sanctuary city ordinance, the San Angelo City Council voted on the issue of making the city a Sanctuary City for the Unborn.

"I propose directing the city attorney to bring to the next council meeting a proclamation supporting the right to life and supporting the Heartbeat Bill," said Mayor Brenda Gunter.

According to the city's website, a proclamation is a "document proclaiming a public or official announcement in honor of significant events, organizations, and persons who have made a significant contribution to the community."

When the proclamation was brought forward, all voted in favor except councilmembers Larry Miller and Lane Carter.

After the vote Mayor, Gunter announced that "citizens under the charter have a right to form and initiate a committee to put the presented ordinance on the May ballot for a vote of the people."

This decision now puts the burden on the city's residents to show up to the ballot box and support the side they believe to be right on this issue.
