In this article San Angelo LIVE! explored the reasoning behind the recall for Thomason and the council members. The following is a video explaining the drama:

After months of wondering what the final results would be, on Nov. 4, the official results have determined the Mayor will stay. Mayor Shannon Thomason will keep his seat after winning the election 56% against recalling him and 44% in favor.

The other two council members who were openly against Mayor Thomason, Jim DePauw and Camilla Strande, ended up losing the battle. Jim Depauw's race ended with 52% of voters in favor and 48% against.

As for Strande, she lost the race the 59% in favor of recalling city council member Camilla Strande and 41% against.

"Wow! What a ride! So if you haven’t heard by now, the “unofficial” totals on my recall were: 2508 votes FOR my recall. 3156 votes AGAINST my recall. A margin of 648 votes. I’d like to take a few moments to thank some folks: First off, my deepest thanks go out to Emily Thomason. She is my rock and without her and the Lord above none of what we’ve been able to accomplish for the City of Big Spring would have been possible. I offer my sincere thanks to the Big Spring Professional Fire Fighters Association for their continued support through the recall. I couldn’t ask for a better or more honorable group standing with me. (While we are on the subject, I got word today that our ISO fire rating for the city went down from 4 to 3, which should translate to some savings on everyones homeowners insurance!) Special thanks go out to some of our local business owners for their continued support and belief that capitalism and a free market economy can work for the benefit of ALL of Big Spring! Thanks go out specifically to Mr. Brint Ryan for his kind words and support and his continuing dedication and investment in Big Spring! Huge thanks go out to Scott Emerson and Nati Saldivar, the admins at Big Spring Issues here on Facebook. Your advice, input and guidance is always appreciated! Finally, I want to thank YOU! All of you who voted in this election, no matter how you voted in this recall. I ran to represent all of you, not just the folks that backed or supported me and I renew this pledge: “I will work for the citizens...period. If you have need of me, all it takes is a call, a text, or a post and I WILL LISTEN! The best part of this job is being able to help people.” So, thank you Big Spring! It has been my honor to serve you and it is my honor to continue to do so! Take care, God bless you, and may God bless Big Spring!" stated Mayor Thomason on his Facebook following the win.
