Long Lines at Tom Green County Polls Tuesday

SAN ANGELO, TX – There were long lines at some Tom Green County polling locations Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. when the polls opened.

It is finally Election Day and voters will decide between President Donald Trump and former Vice-President Joe Biden.  According to reports, for the first time in history law enforcement agencies across the country are on alert because of the threat of violence at the outcome of the Presidential election.

Locally, the races to watch are for Congressional District 11, U.S. Senator, and Chief Justice of the 3rd Court of Appeals.

For the first time in recent memory, the Congressman representing CD11 will be from San Angelo.  Republican candidate Colonel August Pfluger bested a field of nine candidates in the primary without a runoff.  John Mark Hogg is the Democrat Party nominee who was unopposed in the primary.  And Wacy Alpha Cody is the Libertarian Party candidate who began the election in the Republican primary then switched parties.  All three are from San Angelo and are vying to replace Republican Congressman Mike Conaway of Midland.  Conaway has represented CD11 in Congress for 14 years and announced last year he would not seek reelection.

In the race for United States Senator from Texas, Republican incumbent John Cornyn is challenged by Democrat M.J. Hegar. Cornyn made a campaign stop in San Angelo Friday

In the race for Chief Justice on the 3rd Court of Appeals, incumbent Republican Justice Jeff Rose is challenged by Democrat Darlene Byrne.

The Texas Secretary of State's office reported that 57 percent of registered voters in the state cast ballots in early voting.  Reports from across the country indicate election results may not be completed Tuesday night because of the volume of mail-in and absentee ballots.
