SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Pachyderm Club met Monday night at Miss Hattie’s Restaurant in downtown San Angelo and announced the club’s endorsement of August Pfluger for congress. Pfluger is the Republican candidate for the open seat of Congressional District 11 that spans from Granbury to Llano, through San Angelo, to the Permian Basin. The current CD-11 Congressman, K. Michael Conaway, announced his retirement in August 2019.
Fred Contreras, club president, presented the endorsement to Pfluger staffer Bryson Albert.
In support of the club’s endorsement, Contreras noted that Pfluger was a seventh generation west Texan, a rancher, and has served on active duty as a combat fighter pilot for the U.S. Air Force for nearly 20 years. Pfluger flew a myriad of combat missions over Iraq and Syria during the past decade.
Pfluger resigned his active duty commission and accepted a reserve commission and new assignment during his campaign for congress. He currently serves a unit at the Pentagon part-time as a full colonel.
Pfluger faces Democrat Jon Mark Hogg, Libertarian candidate Wacey Alpha Cody, and independent candidate Jeffery Cady in the Nov. 3 election. Pfluger is favored to win the majority Republican district.
The club is a local chapter of the National Federation of Pachyderm Clubs and claims 75 members. It meets once per month.
